On June 24, in the frame of the project “Building Resistant local communities in Georgia and Armenia”, a field training was held in Kaps community, Shirak Region, which is funded by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection office (DIPECHO).
The aim was
• Improve and strengthen community response teams theoretical and practical knowledge on DRR.
• Strengthen and enhance inter-municipal cooperation level.
The training was attended by 18 community-based volunteer response teams. The teams demonstrated their knowledge and training skills, by implementing the first aid to injured, crossing river in strong stream conditions, removal of injured out of the car and DRR testing.
The training was led by the Shirak Regional Rescue Department, the Armenian Red Cross Society and LORE rescue team.
On April 2, a working meeting with Tavush Marz Nerkin Tsaghkavan community secondary school staff was held. During it the current problems of school were discussed, particularly the organization of evacuation operations.
At the end of the meeting a contest on DRR theme was held.
Then a drill on the theme of “Pupils and staff of the Center evacuation organizing in case of fire” was implemented in “Bridge of hope” center of Marz.
During the drill evacuation and first aid for victims trainings were implemented by the Regional Rescue Department.
At the end of working day in the regional administration a working meeting with DRR regional team members, representatives of non-governmental organizations was held, during which the local level disaster risk assessment results were discussed, which were carried out in Hovk, Tsaghkavan, Aknaghbyur and Sevqar communities of Tavush Marz.
The events were organized by Oxfam Armenia, “Bridge of Hope” NGO and Tavush Regional Rescue Department.
On March 30, a working meeting on local level disaster risk assessment results’ summarization was held in Tavush Marz Regional Administration.
The meeting was conducted with the initiative of Oxfam, “Bridge of Hope” NGO and Tavush Marz Rescue department.
The assessment was carried out in the framework of “Communities resilience towards disaster risk promotion in South Caucasus” project funded by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department under the Disaster Preparedness Programme (DIPECHO) and Oxfam, in cooperation with “Bridge of Hope” and “LORE” NGOs.
On March 25-26, within the frames of Disaster Risk Reduction National Platform , World Vision Armenia in cooperation with Stepanavan Municipality and the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situation of the Republic of Armenia (MTA ES) has implemented “Stepanavan city resilience –lessons learned’’ workshop in Stepanavan, Lori region.
Representatives from the UN Development Programme, Armenian Red Cross Society, LORE rescue team, DRR National Platform, UNICEF, Armenian offices of Oxfam and Save the Children international organizations, as well as World Vision Eastern Europe and Middle East resilience sector coordinator Elsa Karnaby, as well as the Head of urban development Group Alineh Rahbany.
The objective of the workshop was to introduce the acquired ideas and experience of all the stakeholders of Stepanavan city resilience building process.
During the workshop, participants were divided into working groups and discussed sustainability, accountability and partnership strengthening issues. Each group came up with its speech presenting the activities carried out in Stepanavan, lessons learned and introduced relevant recommendations, which will be used to make the further process more efficient. The results of the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in March, 2015 in Sednai, Japan, where UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction awarded Stepanavan city with the ‘Role Model’ certificate and approved Hyogo Framework for Action 2 (HFA -2) were also discussed.
On March 23 within the frames of Disaster Risk Reduction National Platform a workshop was held regarding Local Level Risk Assessment Results implemented in 10 target communities of Vayots Dzor region.
The meeting was organized by Oxfam, “Support to Communities” NGO and Vayots Dzor regional rescue department.
The assessment was carried out by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid department’s Disaster Preparedness Program (DIPECHO) programme and within the frames of “ Supporting Community Resilience in the South Caucasus Region” program and in cooperation with“ Support to Communities” NGO, LORE NGO and ‘Against Legal Violation” NGO .
The role and importance of “Local Level Risk Management” (LLRM) model was introduced during the meeting, which helps to identify existing problems and provide relevant the ways to solve those problems.
During the meeting, the issue of “Community Risk Assessment” certificate was discussed, target communities were given the results of LLRM implemented in their communities.
Based on the evaluation results “Support to Communities” NGO in cooperation with stakeholders, will choose the priority risks in communities in order to implement small construction activities.
