On 28 June 2016 the regional programme for “Disaster Risk Reduction to Improve Resilience of Communities and Institutions in the South Caucasus” has been launched in Yerevan. The programme, funded by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department under the Disaster Preparedness Programme (DIPECHO), is implemented by the Armenian Red Cross Society, OXFAM in Armenia partnering with OxYGen Foundation, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Save the Children. It will run until the end of 2017 and is carried out in close collaboration with the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, and Disaster Risk Reduction National Platform foundation.
On 7-9 June the Ministry of Emergency Situation in collaboration with Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) carries out drill on “Organization and implementation of population protection activities in case of earthquake” for 5 rescue teams in Shirak Marz of RA.
The aim of training is RA state government bodies’ skills and capacity improvement in organization and implementation of population protection actions in case of strong earthquake, the organization of corporation between government bodies, “The actions of RA state bodies in case of strong earthquake” plan reality testing, as well as discussion on international assistance application formation and presentation issues.
