On 19 April 2017 a workshop was held in Kapan, organized jointly by Disaster Risk Reduction National Platform (DRR NP), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and Kapan Resilience Team.
The aim of the workshop was to present the results of the “Strengthening community based resilience and environmental emergency preparedness capacities in Armenia” programme, implemented by UNDP and financed by Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO).
The training on the Minimum Initial Services Package (MISP) in Emergency Situations was carried out for Kapan and Kajaran cities’ medical workers on 18 April 2017 and for fire-rescue brigades and RA Syunik regional rescue department on 19-20 April 2017.
The aim of the training was to convey appropriate knowledge and skills to health workers and rescuers that will enable them to organize as well as provide emergency reproduction services to pregnant women and those giving birth to a baby which, in its turn, will decrease and prevent the mortality and morbidity rates.
On April 19, 2017 a training on “DRR education in kindergartens” was held in Kapan No.1 preschool educational institution organized and carried out by DRR National Platform, the UN Development Programme and Kapan resilience team.
The training aim was to empower children of kindergarten with DRR knowledge, make them the knowledge bearers and pass it to the next generation.
The training consisted of various games, cartoons and short films.
On April 18, an evacuation drill was held at Dilijan school N 5 after Vaghtang Ananyan in the frame of “Applying space-Based Technology (SBT) and Information and Communication Technology (ITC) to Strengthen Disaster Resilience” program implemented by Asian Development Bank.
The pupils of the tenth and eleventh grades took part in the process of evacuation and mapping of emergency situation results in accordance with the evacuation plan and scenario, using mobile applications developed in the frame if the aforementioned program.
On April 13, 2017 an expert group meeting of “Ensuring Children’s Safety through Building Resilience of Communities and Education Institutions” project was held at the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The project is implemented by the DRR National Platform Foundation, funded by the European Union through it’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Operations (ECHO) and UNICEF.
The meeting was attended by the representatives from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, DRR NP and UNICEF.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss the ongoing process of of developing tools for improved community and children resilience and the meaning of disaster risk.
