TOT for Kapan resilient team

On March 22-24, 2017 a training of trainers (TOT) on “Making cities resilient and Disaster risk management basics” was held for Kapan resilient team in Kapan city.

The aim of the TOT was to train instructors who will spread DRM knowledge in Kapan city and later will implement such trainings in municipality, schools, kindergartens, mining and recycling companies.

TOT was organized and carried on by UN Development Programme (UNDP) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) National Platform foundation with the support of Syunik regional rescue department and Kapan city municipality. It was conducted in the frame of “Disaster risk management regional project” (DIPECHO IV) implemented by UNDP in the frame of “Strengthen Community Based Resilience and Environmental Emergency Preparedness Capacities in Armenia” subprogramme and funded by the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO).

At the beginning of the training, Armen Chilingaryan (UNDP) and Ara Barseghyan (DRR National Platform) introduced the training’s objective and outcomes. Then A. Chilingaryan made presentation on “Mainstreaming sexual and reproductive health coordinating mechanisms of sector into emergency situations”.

The next presentation was on training skills, after which the participants made the presentations studied beforehand. Then the advantages and disadvantages of participations’ presenting were discussed, and especially on what they should pay attention for making the presentation process more interesting and effective was highlighted as well. This process was continued until the second half of the next day. To practice their theoretical knowledge, Kapan resilient team members prepared themselves for conducting “DRR education” training in Kapan No 4 preschool educational institution.

On March 24, the resilience team held a training in above mentioned kindergarten, where some rules of traffic and behavior in case of earthquakes were introduced. The training material was presented to the kids by means ofgames and cartoons.
After 3 day-training all participants were certified as trainers.
