For the last 5 years, responsible agencies and supportive agencies have been focusing on seismic vulnerability assessment in schools, as a result of which the Seismic Safety Assessment Scale for schools was developed in 2016. However, during the experience, it has become clear that the existing methodology for assessing school seismic safety needs to be revised and developed a new scale, where included indicators and assessment principles will be more realistic.

Taking into account the above mentioned, “Seysmanakhagits LLC was ordered to develop Seismic Safety Assessment Scale. The “Seysmanakhagits” LLC won the tender announced by UNICEF and Disaster Risk Reduction National Platform Foundation within the framework of the project “Enhancing Human Security and Building Resilient Societies in Disadvantaged Communities of Armenia”.

In the above mentioned scale, it should be taken into consideration not only deficiencies in the current scale but also to re-evaluate the representation of each indicator in the existing scale and peculiarities of calculations.

The results of the redeveloped scale should allow checking regularly and updating of the existing school database.
In order to present the results of the ongoing work to the representatives of the concerned parties, a roundtable discussion was held, where a revised scale of school seismic safety assessment was introduced to the participants. Zaven Khlghatyan introduced the prerequisites, methodology, and gave clarifications for each indicator on the scale.

After the speech, a discussion was held during where answers and clarifications were given to all the questions raised by the participants.

The final version of the Seismic Safety Assessment Scale will be available end of this year.
